Classroom protocols
Classroom Rules:
1. We will always be kind and share.
2. We will always follow directions and listen to all adults
3. We will always keep the classroom neat and clean.
4. We will always have all materials ready for class.
5. We will always raise our hand to speak.
I chose these five rules to guide our class. These rules will help us to create a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for all students in the classroom. With these rules, the students will learn how to show respect to adults, their peers, themselves, and to their classroom environment. By following these rules, our class will be more prepared and run more smoothly which will help to create an optimal environment for learning to place.
Classroom Procedures:
Hand Signal Procedure:
In order to to reduce common classroom disruptions, I have implemented a hand signal procedure. I can either verbally give permission or nod to to a student to give him or her permission to get out of their seat, so I do not have to stop teaching or assisting other students. This will help our classroom flow more smoothly.
Students will hold up 1 finger in the air if they need a common classroom supply such as a sharpened pencil.
Students will hold up 2 fingers if they need to go to the bathroom.
Students will hold up 3 fingers if they need to go get water.
Leaving the Classroom Procedure:
When we are leaving the classroom, the students will line up single file by pods to reduce chaos and decrease transition time. When entering the hallway, the students will walk on the right side in a single file line.
Morning Procedure:
When students enter the classroom, they will place their backpacks, lunchboxes, jackets, and etc. in their lockers or cubbies and pull out their take home folder. At this time, the students will then turn in any homework, notes or other documents into their appropriate container at the front of the classroom. Once they have completed their morning procedure, they can place a ticket in their name pocket on the supply closet door.
Distributing and Collecting Materials Procedure:
Each student will already have our basic classroom supplies in their zipper pouches that stay in their desks. They will also have their sock that contains their dry-erase marker for activities that we do with the dry-erase boards. The extra materials that we do not normally use such as markers will be placed into caddies or organized binders that have a corresponding number to each pod. The group leader for each pod is responsible for distributing and collecting all of the materials that their pod used for the assignment and place them the materials back when they found them.
Distributing and Collecting Graded Work:
Each day approximately ten minutes before we dismiss class I will pass out graded papers. Every student will have their take home folders opened to receive their graded work. When I pass their work back to them, it will be folded in half so other students do not see their grades. Students will not be able to pass out other students work because I do not want a student's grade to be brought up to harm that student.
Classroom Behavior Management Plan
Our positive behavior management plan will be based off a ticket system. Every student will have the opportunity to collect or lose tickets throughout the day. The ticket system allows students the opportunity to positively change their behavior. Each student will receive a ticket in the mornings to start off each day fresh. Students are able to earn tickets when they follow the rules and procedures set in our classroom. They can also gain a ticket if they are complimented or praised by another teacher for their behavior outside of my classroom. Students will lose tickets when they do not follow the rules and procedures set in our classroom or if they receive a warning from another teacher because of their behavior. On the last school day of each week, the students will be able to trade in their tickets for rewards. Students with 1-3 tickets will be able to choose a prize from the treasure chest. Students with 4-5 tickets will be able to choose an incentive to do on the first school day of the next week. These incentives include being a teacher's helper, sitting behind the teacher's desk for the day, eating lunch with a friend that is not in your class, being a library or office helper for the day, eating lunch in the classroom, more reading time, and homework extensions.
